Darkness must always be present, but need not be
filled with pain or worry. The Goddess resides in the darkness as fully as She resides
in the light. You too shall reside in the darkness many times in your life and
must find there the comforts and joys it offers. Our cultures associate
darkness with evil, rage, agony and loss and we must undo that thinking when we
honour the Goddess and celebrate Her solstice. Find instead the silence and
tranquility, the goodness of deeds unseen by others and the harmony within Her
